What is mesothelioma?

Malignant mesothelioma is a disease that strikes approximately 3,000 U.S. citizens each year. In this rare form of cancer, malignant (cancer) cells are found in the sac lining the chest, the lining of the abdominal cavity, or the lining around the heart.

However, it has been estimated that as many as 20 million people have been exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos at their workplaces since the 1940s, and many thousands more diagnoses of mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer can be expected in the coming years.
